BBC News reports that a series of monitored traffic zones in Leicester have already generated over 10,000 bus lane PCNs to be issued in just 2 months. This certainly seems to be following a pattern, with similar figures in the past coming from Hertfordshire, Glasgow and Edinburgh Councils after they introduced enforcement of bus lanes. The Director of Planning, Transportation and Economic Development for Leicester is quoted as saying:
“We have made it very clear through signage and consultation before we introduced the bus lane enforcement scheme…”
Hopefully this time there won’t be a repeat of the later issues with Edinburgh and Hertfordshire, where, despite similar claims being made, thousands of refunds had to be issued due to incorrect signs or enforcement of those lanes.
