DVLA to create new forum on private parking

The Plain Language Commission recently wrote about the DVLA creating a new forum to advise on the continued conflicts that arise from the contentious issue of private parking charges.

The new ‘DVLA Consumer Forum on Private Parking Management’ will include people from the AA, the RAC, Which?, Trading Standards, the Office of Fair Trading and Citizens Advice, as well as Martin Cutts of Plain Language Commission and Nev Metson, the former police officer who has exposed many of the worst private-parking rip-offs.

This follows on from the DVLA suspending a number of private parking companies from their keeper database due to failing to meet British parking Association guidelines over car park signs.

It certainly looks like they have a wide selection of advisors, however I can’t see any mention of the BVRLA whose members receive a large number of these charges as the Registered Keepers of contract hire vehicles.  Any changes to the law or to the current processes would have a big effect on them and their customers, so to me it would make sense to also invite them if they haven’t already.
